Project: Full exterior redecoration of a Grade II listed thatched coastal home
Perched dramatically on the East Devon cliffs overlooking the Jurassic Coast, Clifton Cottage is one of those properties you never forget — beautiful, historic, and exposed to the full force of the elements.
When we were called in, the paintwork was failing just months after a previous redecoration. Moisture was trapped, paint was peeling, and key timber features were deteriorating fast.
We set out to restore the home’s charm and longevity — not just cover the problem.
Our approach:
Full exterior wash down and dust-free sanding
Stripped failing coatings to bare wood where necessary
Repairs with hardwood timber and Repaircare systems
Applied Dulux Weathershield Masonry, Sikkens Rubbol Primer, and Satura satin finish for lasting protection
Despite challenging coastal weather, our team carefully preserved the property’s listed features — sash and French windows, timber box gutters, leaded details, and intricate thatch joins — ensuring every element was restored to perfection.

Seaton-based businessman Nick Dodge, of Actionline Decorating LTD, has achieved success in the 2018 Dulux Select Decorator of the Year Awards, a national competition run by Dulux Trade. He collected his trophy at the awards ceremony in March for an exceptional job redecorating a customer’s home.
The project, completed on Coxes Farm in Devon, provided detailed plans for the external redecoration of the client’s house. Due to the customer’s busy lifestyle and specific timeframe, Nick kept the property safe, secure and accessible whilst carrying out the work. The homeowners were thrilled with his professionalism and commitment to going the extra mile.

Members are rigorously assessed and their work guaranteed, ensuring homeowners benefit from the highest standards and ultimate peace of mind. The Dulux Select Decorator Awards are a chance to celebrate the outstanding workmanship produced by its members.
Nick Dodge was named winner of the External Projects category. He was recognised for going above and beyond – providing exceptional workmanship and surpassing customer expectations.
